What History Teaches: Collaboration and the Holocaust in Eastern Europe

About the Event

Much of the scholarship on the Holocaust has focused on the concentration camps in Germany and Poland. However, the actions taken in other countries like the Baltic States are less well-known. Through her research to understand how her grandfather could have been a wanted Lithuanian war criminal, Professor Kerrie Taber learned about the role of the Lithuanian Auxiliary Police in the termination of Jewish people and about some of the aspects that led to the willingness of people like her grandfather to assist the Nazis. In this installment of “What History Teaches,” Kerrie Taber will discuss the differences that led to the mass murder of the Jewish people in Lithuania, the complexities of the roles some played during the Nazis and Russian control of Lithuania, and the role her grandfather played.

Dr. Kerrie Taber grew up in Northern Ohio. After graduating from the University of Toledo with a degree in electrical engineering, she moved down to Austin, Texas. While working for a high-tech company, Kerrie had the opportunity to travel to several overseas countries. Her travels allowed her to experience many different cultures, which she brings to her courses to help students understand the impacts of culture on leading people and organizations.
